SAI National Hockey Trials starting March 2


The Sports Authority of India (SAI) open selection trials for hockey players are set to commence at its various National Centers of Excellence (NCoE) from March 2.

The tryouts will be held in various locations across the country where girls and boys aged 14 to 24 can compete, the nodal sports body announced on Wednesday.

The trials will take place over a three-day period, with selectors testing the players’ likely physical condition and skill level through various tests.

While the first set of leads will start on March 2 at SAI’s NCoE Aurangabad, the process will continue in other centers in the following days: Kolkata – women – March 7-9, Sonipatmen – March 15-17, Mumbai – women – March 11 to 13, Patiala – women – March 3 to 5, Lucknow – men and women – March 3 to 5 (women) and March 7 to 9 (men), Aurangabad – men – March 2 to 4, Imphal – men and women – March 7-9 (women) and March 10-12 (men).

The performance criteria for selection are as follows: Representation of India in recognized hockey competition, medal in Hockey India national championship, participation in Hockey India national championship, participation in school national championships, participation in youth games and Khelo India university, All India and interuniversity competitions, medal in the state hockey championship and participation in the state hockey championship.

Regardless of age criteria, talented athletes may be considered for induction based on the recommendation of talent identification and development committee members who will be in attendance, the ISC said.
