Missanelli Out at 97.5 The Fanatic

By Michael Lipinsky, Sports Talk Philly Editor

A complete shock returning from Memorial Day Weekend 2022, Mike Missanelli stepped out as host of The Mike Missanelli Show on 97.5 The Fanatic. Missanelli made the announcement on air moments ago.

Missanelli, a staple of Philadelphia sports radio since the 1990s, has been the programming linchpin of The Fantatic for most of its existence. It was a major coup for WPEN to bring a “WIP guy” to Missanelli, which obviously opened the door for other hosts to skip the dial. As he mentions, his contract expires in a few weeks and the parent company, Beasley, has decided to go in another direction.

How shocking is that? Shocking considering this move even caught “Radio Wars” veteran Kevin Kinkead from Crossing Vast by surprise. Crossing Vast has been at the forefront of sports radio drama for the past decade and they knew nothing concrete about the decision. Like Kinkead tip ort, Missanelli was on the final leg of his contract which he agreed to extend in the fall of 2021.

As Missanelli noted, a new show is already signed, sealed, and will be delivered by 97.5 The Fanatic in a few weeks.

Let the speculation begin on that one. Has anyone followed Josh Innes lately?

Say what you will about Mikey Miss, the guy has been a staple of Philadelphia sports radio for nearly 30 years (forget that stupid stint at WMMR). He probably deserved a little more sending than just coming up and saying “see you soon”, even though that’s more than most people get. Beasley is taking a bet here. Replacing Missanelli will not be easy from a listening/sponsoring point of view. The company must hit a home run or it could spell the beginning of the end for Philadelphia’s premier FM sports radio station.
