As expected, the Dallas Cowboys and tight end Dalton Schultz failed to reach agreement on a long-term deal by the July 15 deadline.
The Cowboys tight end caught 78 passes for 808 yards with 8 touchdowns in 2021 where he became safety cover for quarterback Dak Prescott. This offseason, Dak opened up about their relationship. “He’s a guy I can rely on, I can trust, and it’s grown steadily and it’s grown over the past few weeks.”
The final weeks Prescott referred to were when Schultz had very brief resistance during the offseason schedule.
Dalton eventually ended his resistance and showed up for the team’s mandatory minicamp practices to avoid any fines.
Schultz is expected to show up for training camp on time.
The parties can reopen negotiations after the season, with another tag in 2023 also an option.
